Grandfathering Policy for Clinical Specialty Certification

  1. Effective January 1, 2014, the designation Board Recognized Specialist will no longer be valid.
  2. All individuals who hold the designation Board Recognized Specialist on January 1, 2014, will become a Board Certified Specialist as of that date.
  3. All individuals whose Application for Board Recognized Specialist is received by the Specialty Board and remains pending on January 1, 2014, will be evaluated on the requirements stated in the application packet at the time of submission (electronic date or postmark date). Upon successful completion of all requirements and Specialty Certification Board approval, the applicant will be awarded the designation Board Certified Specialist.
  4. All individuals whose Application for Specialty Certification is received by the Specialty Certification Board on or after January 1, 2014, will be evaluated on the requirements in effect at the time of submission (electronic date or postmark date). Upon successful completion of all requirements and Specialty Certification Board approval, the applicant will be awarded the designation Board Certified Specialist.
  5. Any individual seeking renewal for specialty certification on or after January 1, 2014, shall meet the renewal requirements of that specialty certification board at the time of renewal. Individuals will maintain the same specialty certification cycle and renewal date that they held for specialty recognition.
