The purpose of this position is to provide visionary and strategic staff leadership on audiology issues. The CSO for Audiology is responsible for actively engaging the organization at all levels to be responsive to the audiology-related needs of members, students, and consumers. As a member of the Facilitating Team, the CSO for Audiology shares responsibility for working with the Chief Executive Officer to help ensure smooth, effective, and efficient operations of the National Office and for working effectively with ASHA's volunteer leaders to anticipate and meet the needs of the audiology community.
Responsibilities
- Determine strategic direction and provide professional, technical, and management leadership as a member of the Facilitating Team in determining office-wide policies and procedures to enhance the ASHA National Office culture and work effort.
- Identify and analyze internal and external trends and issues that have an impact on the profession of audiology, and ensure that timely information is conveyed to facilitate decision making in order to effectively position the profession and the Association relative to opportunities and challenges.
- Determine strategic direction and provide professional, technical, and management leadership to other National Office units and volunteer leaders (including committees, boards, and councils) on matters relating to audiology and other programmatic areas as assigned.
- Ensure effective development, implementation, and monitoring of budgets for audiology, major projects (e.g., Strategic Initiatives), and other operations as assigned.
- Serve as a liaison to external organizations and to support the Association's activities and planning relating to the audiology program as well as to other initiatives as assigned.
- Monitor, coach, and mentor staff to enhance their skills and to assist them in effectively supporting ASHA's objectives.
- Determine staffing needs; hire, orient, and evaluate other management, professional, and support staff in the audiology units.
Qualifications
Knowledge Typically Acquired Through
- Graduate degree in audiology; doctoral degree in audiology strongly preferred
- Approximately 10 years of experience in the profession of audiology with some management experience
- Managing a budget of $500,000 or more
- Motivating, developing, and directing staff of greater than 5 and preferably from diverse disciplines to achieve organizational objectives

- Deep understanding of and commitment to serving the needs of audiologists
- Understanding of the research and practice of the profession of audiology

$161,817–$179,797
