ASHA Is Now Accepting CEUs in Half-hour Increments
Background
Providers and participants requested increased flexibility in the amount of ASHA CEUs that can be awarded. Providers may now offer courses for ASHA CEUs that are only 30 minutes long. Participants at conventions and meetings will no longer 'lose' time that is less than a full hour. A course that lasts 5 hours and 30 minutes can be offered for .55 ASHA CEUs (instead of .5 ASHA CEUs under the previous process). All this adds up to participants accruing more ASHA CEUs!
How to Implement
When calculating the number of ASHA CEUs for a course, the number of contact minutes should be totaled on the basis of a pilot study and/or time-ordered agenda, excluding breaks, meals, and other non-educational events. The total number of minutes is divided by 60 to arrive at the number of contact hours. Total contact hours, rounded down to the nearest ½ hour should be divided by 10 to obtain the CEU amount. See chart below for a easy guide to calculations.
Courses registered after 2/1/2011 may be offered for half-hour increments. Courses and offerings currently registered may not have the ASHA CEUs reassigned.
