ASHA CE Celebrates Its 35th Anniversary

Thirty-five years ago, ASHA first started approving organizations as ASHA CE Providers. In 1979, Jimmy Carter was president, the Steelers beat the Cowboys in Super Bowl XIII, and "YMCA" was the top song of the year! The Sony Walkman was also introduced that year and other gadgets that we view as "ancient history" were still on the horizon—Palm Pilots and 3½ inch floppy disks, to name a few.

Over the past 35 years 215,000+ speech-language pathologists and audiologists have taken thousands of courses offered for ASHA CEUs through ASHA Approved CE Providers. There are over 525 Providers located nationally and internationally who are committed to offering high-caliber continuing education courses. These courses are designed to meet ASHA professionals' learning needs and keep them skilled in their clinical practice. Course content is also intended to prepare them for the future through learning about cutting edge scientific findings, new technology, and innovative approaches to the services they provide. ASHA Approved CE Providers connect speech-language pathologists and audiologists to professional learning experiences that often provide both educational and interpersonal enrichment opportunities. Experts in the field are essential to professional development through imparting their knowledge and skills, but networking with peers at courses can also enhance the learning process. Plus, having common professional interests can be the start to forging new friendships.

We want to recognize the 33 Providers who have remained ASHA Approved CE Providers for 35 years. It's a remarkable achievement!
