Speak Out, Be Heard!
Two Professions Advocating as One
Speak Out, Be Heard is ASHA's comprehensive federal advocacy program dedicated to protecting and promoting the professions through member engagement in the legislative and political processes. Becoming an effective advocate for the professions requires an ongoing effort on the part of every audiologist and speech-language pathologist, through:
Grassroots Advocacy: With Speak Out, Be Heard, ASHA will give you the tools to communicate with your Members of Congress not just through occasional emails, but through phone calls and face-to-face meetings. Our Federal Advocacy Network allows you to easily contact your members of Congress, receive regular communications about important legislation, and learn about advocacy events occurring in your congressional district and state.
Speak Out, Be Heard also encourages ASHA members to become Grassroots Captains for your congressional district and/or state. These Captains serve as the primary contacts with their U.S. Senators and Representatives and establish valuable relationships to increase awareness of the issues that face speech-language pathology and audiology.
Political Advocacy: ASHA-PAC is ASHA's voluntary, nonpartisan political action committee (PAC). ASHA-PAC is the only federal PAC representing both audiology and speech-language pathology in the nation's political process. Federal election law prohibits ASHA from using member dues or other revenue to support congressional candidates. ASHA-PAC is ASHA's only way to support candidates responsive to our viewpoints.
